Speaker on LBGTQI Movement

The Winona State University Inclusion and Diversity office will host guest speaker Heather Hackman, Ph.D., for the presentation “A Queer Moment: A Critical Conversation about the Current Status of the LBGTQI Movement and Some Thoughts for the Decades to Come” at 7 p.m. on National Coming Out Day, Tuesday, Oct. 9, in the East Hall of Kryzsko Commons.

The presentation will take a critical yet appreciative look at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Questioning and Intersex (LGBTQI) movement from its origins to the current “queer moment” and will share some suggestions to help assure the 21st century movement can more deeply address the needs of the LGBTQI community and its allies.

Hackman has educated others for more than 20 years on many social justice issues such as racism, homophobia, oppression, social change and sexism.

The event is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by WSU Rochester, WSU Winona, WSU College of Education, Southeast Technical College and Anoka Ramsey Community College.
