The group will perform blues-based contemporary jazz pieces composed and arranged by leader and tenor saxophonist John Paulson, an adjunct professor at Winona State University.
Paulson earned his B.M. and Master of Music degrees from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City and his D.M.A. in music education from the University of Washington in Seattle. He studied flute and clarinet with players in the Utah Symphony and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Paulson has been doing big band jazz arrangements for student groups for more than 20 years. His jazz groups have performed throughout the Midwest for more than 30 years, and he has performed internationally with jazz groups from Saint Mary’s University.
Other members of the JPBB include saxophonists Brian Koser (Austin, MN), Richard Rohrbaugh (Rochester, MN), Dave Townsend (Rochester, MN) and Ray Dretsky (Winona, MN); trumpeters Warren Bandel (Rochester, MN), Adam Meckler (Twin Cities), Jerry Paulson (Winona, MN) and John Mundy (Wabasha, MN); and trombonists Scott Agster (Twin Cities), John Sievers (Rochester, MN), and Eric Heukeshoven and Tom Nalli (Winona, MN). The rhythm section is comprised of pianist Larry Price and drummer Rich MacDonald (Winona, MN), guitarist Mike James (Onalaska, WI) and bassist Eric Graham (Red Wing, MN).
Cost is $10 for general admission and $5 for students and senior citizens. Tickets are only available at the door one hour before the performance.
